ABOUT BLUE CLIFF ZEN CENTER and OUR TEACHERS
Blue Cliff Zen Center is a non-profit organization started by a community of Zen meditators and Matt Shinkai Kane in Eugene, Oregon in 2014 at the request of Shinzan Miyamae Roshi of Gyokuryuji Temple (Gifu, Japan). We are a primarily lay-based Rinzai Zen group dedicated to the cultivation of physical and mental well-being and genuine insight. We hold a weekly meditation group, Zen yoga and Zen taiso classes, a wide array of mindfulness courses, Zen Jinshin workshops, retreats, and ceremonies throughout the year.
Shinkai studied Zen in Japan for over seven years and is a senior Zen teacher in the Hakuin-Inzan line of the Japanese Rinzai tradition. He studied with Soto Zen teachers as well and is a member of the Southern Willamette Zen Teachers Council. Learn more >>
We also offer yoga teacher trainings and meditation/mindfulness teacher trainings at Breitenbush Hot Springs in Detroit, Oregon. Completing our yoga teacher training steeped in Buddhist practice and philosophy is a wonderful way to deepen your own yoga practice and bring it to others. Our yoga teacher training is unique from other trainings out there and focuses on three intertwined areas of alignment, energy flow, and mindfulness. Please visit our yoga teacher training page to find out more!
